Our study provides first estimates that quantify the impact of air pollution on disease progression of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in Australia. This study adds to the evidence supporting the negative effects of air pollution on lung function in people with IPF living at low-level concentrations of exposure.

We show that multiple anti-modified protein antibodies are present in a significant proportion of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Antibodies against anti-modified peptides were present in patients despite having no antibodies against anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide. The presence of these antibodies may be associated with longer survival in IPF. |

nCLE imaging of mediastinal lymph nodes and pulmonary nodules enables real-time granuloma visualization. Blinded raters accurately validated novel nCLE granuloma criteria through two separate validation sessions and distinguished nCLE granuloma criteria from malignancy. nCLE has the potential to become a useful adjunct to bronchoscopy for real-time nodule detection and characterization. |

We show that supranormal lung function (FEV1 or FVC) occurs in around 3% of the general population through the life span, and is associated with female sex, increased muscle mass, fewer respiratory symptoms and less diabetes.
