This observational study of Chinese patients with mild asthma reveals that physicians considered 75% to be well or completely controlled, although only 14.2% were well controlled according to the Global Initiative for Asthma criteria. Treatment adherence was low, and many patients experienced nocturnal symptoms, exacerbations and work and activity impairments. |

It is unknown whether radiographic fibrosis score predicts mortality in systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease. This study shows that a high radiographic fibrosis score was a poor prognostic factor. More widespread fibrosis was associated with an increased risk of death, independent of high-resolution computed tomography pattern. |

Few studies have evaluated the severity of exertional hypoxemia in fibrotic interstitial lung disease (ILD). We demonstrate that exertional hypoxemia is more common and severe in fibrotic ILD compared to COPD. More ILD-specific studies are needed to evaluate the potential utility of ambulatory oxygen in fibrotic ILD. |

Intratumoral chemotherapeutic injection is an efficacious modality in reducing recurrence of tumours while minimizing systemic side effects. Direct intratumoral injection of malignant airway obstruction has potential therapeutic benefits but tissue drug concentrations and side effects are poorly understood. This study confirms safety and feasibility of paclitaxel administration directly into the bronchial wall and provides dosing guidance for human trials.

The novel scoring system described here readily distinguishes Birt–Hogg–Dubé syndrome (BHDS) from primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PTX) by applying five clinical variables that are easily evaluated, are highly sensitive and have strong specificity. This system provides pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons a tool to avoid overlooking BHDS among the patients with PTX in daily clinical practice. |
