DOI: 10.1002/rcr.999
We describe a case series of five patients in three generations of a family diagnosed with congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS). Our report not only emphasizes the importance of screening first-degree relatives of children with a confirmed diagnosis of CCHS, but also alerts physicians to variability in phenotypic presentation of this rare disease. |

Left upper lobectomy with combined distal aortic arch and left subclavian artery resection after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced lung squamous cell carcinoma
Yusuke Takanashi, Kazuhito Funai, Akikazu Kawase, Daisuke Takahashi, Keigo Sekihara, Yuta Matsubayashi, Takamitsu Hayakawa, Katsushi Yamashita, Norihiko Shiiya
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.994
We report a long-term survival case of left upper lobe squamous cell carcinoma, in which lobectomy and combined distal aortic arch and left subclavian artery resection achieved a complete resection after induction chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Appropriate patient selection considering expected prognosis, induction CRT and complete resection under well-planned cardiopulmonary bypass are essential to achieve a long-term survival on T4 non-small cell lung cancer with a probable aortic involvement. |
Two cases of acute respiratory failure following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in post-COVID-19 pneumonia
Tomohiro Bando, Reoto Takei, Yoshikazu Mutoh, Hajime Sasano, Yasuhiko Yamano, Toshiki Yokoyama, Toshiaki Matsuda, Kensuke Kataoka, Tomoki Kimura, Yasuhiro Kondoh
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.995
The two cases reported here highlight a potential association between vaccination, interstitial lung disease and worsening of post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia. Further investigation and research examining the relationship between the timing of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 vaccination and potential risks in post-COVID-19 patients is recommended. |
A dramatic course after the resection of an SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated tumour

DOI: 10.1002/rcr.1001
Thoracic SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated tumours are ordinarily found as a huge mass with systemic metastasis, and the prognosis is poor. Although a small number of operable cases have been reported, it is unclear whether complete resection contributes to a longer prognosis. Here, we present a case of SMARCA4-UT in which distant metastasis occurred shortly after complete resection, leading to an aggressive course. |
Cytomegalovirus pneumonia in a background of central nervous system tuberculosis
Sugeesha Wickramasinghe, Menaka Tillekeratne, Sasanka Wijayawardhana, Aflah Sadikeen, Dilshan Priyankara, Manoj Edirisooriya, Amitha Fernando
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.1002
This is the first case report describing the association of cytomegalovirus (CMV) pneumonia with tuberculous meningitis in an immunocompetent adult. The case describes different complications of CMV infection and when to suspect in the presence of tuberculosis. |

DOI: 10.1002/rcr.1005
We report the diagnosis and conservative treatment for a rare case of cervical schwannoma with severe upper tracheal stenosis. |
Anti-tumour necrosis factor-α-induced lupus in a patient receiving infliximab for sarcoidosis
Lachlan Stranks, Sally Chapman
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.1006
Lupus is a rare complication of treatment with infliximab, occurring in less than 1% of all patients treated. In this report, we describe an adult patient who developed this clinical syndrome whilst receiving infliximab therapy for sarcoidosis. |

Mohammed Amine Bouanzoul
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.1003
We report images of an adenoid cystic carcinoma of the tracheal bifurcation diagnosed accidentally following recurrent episodes of haemoptysis. |
Desquamation of the subpleural lung parenchyma caused by empyema after pulmonary embolism: A case report
Takafumi Iguchi, Shinjiro Mizuguchi, Chung Kyukwang, Ryu Nakajima, Makoto Takahama
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.1008
We report a case in which pleural infection after pulmonary embolism caused circulation failure in the subpleural lung parenchyma (SLP) and massive desquamation of the SLP. |
Platypnea-orthodeoxia syndrome in a patient with ongoing COVID-19

SARS-CoV-2 infection of the vascular endothelium causes excessive vasodilation. It is important in the rehabilitation of patients with COVID-19 to recognize that increased blood flow in lung lesions at the base of the lung due to vasodilation may cause V/Q mismatch and result in platypnea-orthodeoxia syndrome. |
