Amir Jarjou'i, Naama Bogot, George Kalak, Chen Chen-Shuali, Ariel Rokach, Gabriel Izbicki, Nissim Arish
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.839
Pulmonary calcifications are usually incidental asymptomatic findings discovered on x-rays or computed tomography scans that can be easily overlooked, and their significance undermined, especially in a seemingly asymptomatic person. We describe three cases of diffuse pulmonary calcifications, review the different types of diffuse pulmonary calcifications and provide clinical as well as radiological clues to establishing a diagnosis. |

A case of intradiaphragmatic bronchogenic cyst with an abnormally high serum level of CA19-9
Go Kamimura, Kazuhiro Ueda, Soichi Suzuki, Masaya Aoki, Toshiyuki Nagata, Masami Sato
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.838
Bronchogenic cysts that occur within the diaphragm are rare and difficult to diagnose preoperatively. Here, we report the case of a patient with an abnormally high serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) level before surgery. The diagnosis of intradiaphragmatic bronchogenic cyst was made during surgery. When managing patients with bronchogenic cysts in the diaphragm, a preoperative diagnosis or location of the tumour can be difficult; thus, careful planning is required before surgery. |

This case describes the first reported use of autologous blood pleurodesis to treat prolonged air leak in a case of COVID-19 pneumonia which was complicated by spontaneous pneumomediastinum and pneumothorax. |
Rapid and dramatic responses to dabrafenib and trametinib in BRAF V600E-mutated lung adenocarcinoma
Takayo Ota, Aya Okabayashi, Masahiro Fukuoka
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.841
Combination of BRAF (V-raf murine sarcoma viral oncogene homologue B1)-specific inhibitor dabrafenib and MEK inhibitor trametinib is the standard treatment for BRAF V600E-mutated lung cancer. We report a case of BRAF V600E-mutated lung adenocarcinoma, which presented with respiratory distress due to deterioration of advanced cancer. The tumour responded rapidly and significantly to BRAF/MEK inhibitors, and the patient's symptoms improved within 2 weeks. |
Rothia aeria pneumonia in an immunocompetent patient: A novel case study
Kei Sonehara, Taisuke Araki, Masayuki Hanaoka
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.843
Rothia species are indigenous bacteria in the oral cavity and upper gastrointestinal tract. They rarely cause serious infections. Here, we report a rare case of pneumonia caused by Rothia aeria in an immunocompetent patient. |

Takuya Ohashi, Mitsumasa Kawago, Yoshimitsu Hirai, Megumi Kiyoi, Miwako Miyasaka, Yumi Yata, Mari Kawaji, Aya Fusamoto, Hideto Iguchi, Hitomi Nakanishi, Yoshiharu Nishimura
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.844
A 72-year-old man was diagnosed with thymoma and elevated serum carbohydrate antigen (CA) 19-9. We report a case of serum CA 19-9-producing thymoma that was confirmed histologically. |
Treatment of electronic cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury (EVALI) by corticosteroid and low-dose pirfenidone: Report of a case
Chia-Hao Wu, Ting-Yu Liao, Yung-Hsuan Chen, Ping-Hung Kuo
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.845
We report the case of a 56-year-old man who presented to our hospital with dyspnoea and cough lasting for 2 months after using an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette). He was treated with prednisolone and low-dose pirfenidone, leading to the gradual improvement of his symptoms and forced vital capacity. To our knowledge, this was the first reported case of e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury treated with a combination of corticosteroid and antifibrotic agents. |
A case of pulmonary arterial hypertension with V/Q SPECT/CT that showed localized uptake of 99mTc just below the pleura and a unique distribution
Yuri Suzuki, Ayumi Sekine, Akira Nishiyama, Toshihiko Sugiura, Nobuhiro Tanabe, Yuri Isaka, Yaeko Hashimoto, Tadasu Okaya, Ayaka Kuriyama, Jun Nagata, Ayako Shigeta, Seiichiro Sakao, Koichiro Tatsumi, Takuji Suzuki
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.847
We report a case of pulmonary arterial hypertension with localized accumulation and peculiar distribution just below the pleura on ventilation–perfusion (V/Q) single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT)/CT. Our finding is unique, and it suggests that V/Q SPECT/CT image data might be useful to detect blood flow not only in cases of pulmonary embolism, but also in the more commonly encountered pulmonary hypertension. |
An intrathoracic giant tumour and vanishing lung cyst after tumour resection
Masashi Nishimura, Shinichiro Ota, Sumitaka Yamanaka, Kanako Shinada, Masaharu Shinkai
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.848
A 65-year-old woman was brought to the emergency unit with an approximately 6-month history of persistent fever and cough. Chest computed tomography demonstrated a 16-cm heterogeneous mass with adjacent large cyst. The tumour was successfully resected, and the final diagnosis was dedifferentiated solitary fibrous tumour. |
Paediatric haemoptysis from multiple pulmonary artery aneurysms
Prakarn Tovichien, Phatthareeda Kaeotawee
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.849
The case of multiple peripheral pulmonary artery aneurysms in children presenting with haemoptysis following an episode of bacterial endocarditis is presented. They are extremely rare and clinically non-specific but critical because early diagnosis is crucial for preventing sudden death from their rupture. |
Notably small bronchial carcinoid accompanied by peripheral squamous cell carcinoma
Hiroyuki Miura, Jun Miura, Shinichi Goto, Keisei Tachibana, Tomoko Yamamoto
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.851
Our report presents the smallest bronchial carcinoid thus far associated with peripheral squamous cell carcinoma. Cases of combined carcinoid and lung cancer are rare. It may be possible to identify bronchial carcinoids early by careful observation of the bronchi during bronchoscopy for peripheral neoplastic lesions. |
Intrathoracic myolipoma from parietal pleura with oestrogen and progesterone receptor
Jyh Shinn Teh, Ching-Yao Weng, Ying-Yueh Chang, Yi-Chen Yeh, Chien-Sheng Huang
DOI: 10.1002/rcr.853
Myolipoma should be considered as one of the differential diagnosis in intrathoracic tumour, with its benign clinical course with simple surgical excision. The presence of oestrogen and progesterone receptor in myolipoma was noted in our case, which was also noted in some of the reported myolipoma cases. Symptoms disclosed after pregnancy suggested the promotion of tumour growth by oestrogen and progesterone. |
