Post-Graduate Courses

These post-graduate courses are designed to update and provide respiratory physicians with guidance on current topics in respiratory medicine. A series of four post-graduate courses will be held on Sunday 19th November in Room B‑1. There is a registration fee of 2,000 yen, which covers all four courses and includes a lunchbox.

10:30‑11:50 PG-2 Chemotherapy

13:00‑14:20 PG-3 Pathogenesis of COPD
14:30‑15:50 PG-4 Pathogenesis of Bronchial Asthma

Each course will last 80 minutes including discussion time. There will be two sessions per course with a different speaker for each 40-minute session.

PG-1 Non-invasive Ventilation

This course will cover the current topics of respiratory care by focusing on non-invasive ventilation, induced hypothermia and drug delivery. Participants will be able to describe the recent developments in ventilatory management. In addition, they will explain the drug delivery during mechanical ventilation. There will be two sessions:

  1. Non-invasive ventilation and induced hypothermia

  2. Tracheal gas insufflation and aerosol delivery during mechanical ventilation

PG-2 Chemotherapy

This course will cover the recent advances in chemotherapy and molecular targeting therapy of lung cancer. Participants will be able to explain the chemotherapeutic agents and protocols. In addition, participants will be able to describe the molecular background of the efficacy of Genitinib and its adverse effect. There will be two sessions:

PG-3 Pathogenesis of COPD

This course will briefly review the GOLD guideline and provide pulmonary physicians with information regarding the mechanism in airflow limitation and dynamic hyperinflation, and update participants on current views of mechanisms in pathogenesis of COPD. Participants will be able to describe COPD and explain the pathogenesis and the current topics on the therapy of COPD. There will be two sessions:

  1. Airflow limitation of COPD

PG-4 Pathogenesis of Bronchial Asthma

Firstly, this course will cover the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma by focusing on the hygiene hypothesis and innate immunity. Secondly, this course will briefly review the GINA guideline and provide participants with the current topics of asthma therapy. Participants will be able to describe the effect of early exposure of endotoxin on asthma pathogenesis. In addition, they will be able to describe the current topics of asthma therapy and explain the benefit of treatment with inhaled corticosteroids. There will be two sessions:
