COPD: Be Aware and Think

Reports on the latest research results and activities in various regions of Japan
♦November 8, 2005 (Hotel New Otani, Tokyo)♦

While COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) is one of the major causes of mortality throughout the world, the disease is under-recognized by the general public. The World COPD Day, sponsored by the global organization GOLD, dedicated to COPD research and education, was established in 2002 in order to appropriately respond to this COPD problem. In 2005, various educational events were held in many countries on and around November 16, which was World COPD Day.

In Japan, a COPD Checking Event targeting the general public was held in Kyoto City and Ginza, Tokyo for three days from Saturday, November 5 to Monday, November 7, as a part of the activities for the Educational Event to Promote World COPD Day in Japan 2005. On Tuesday, November 8, a Media Forum was held for the news media. On these pages, the latest study results and activities announced during that Media Forum by six COPD and respiratory disease research specialists are introduced.
