Congress Correspondent Report

Taipei 2018

Dr Tan

It was almost a month before the congress when I received an e-mail through the Philippine College of Chest Physicians (PCCP) secretariat inviting young members to apply as a volunteer for APSR's social networking sites (SNS) for the upcoming congress this year. I grabbed the opportunity without expecting anything. After a few days, I received another e-mail confirming my acceptance as the Taipei correspondent. I was glad and excited to carry out this task on my first APSR congress.

When I was in primary and secondary school, I was active in our school paper. Being the correspondent for APSR 2018 brought back one of my childhood dreams which is to become a journalist. Being a correspondent is like doing a feature and newswriting at the same time, except that I had to write more often and post a blow-by-blow update of the events. On the pre-congress day, I had the chance of welcoming the delegates from all around the globe through my posts. Aside from posting about the opening ceremonies, I was able to feature the extraordinary talents and delightful gifts that Taiwan has to offer.

During the next days of the congress, I was tasked to feature the executive meetings, presidential symposia and also post key messages of the different lectures and sessions during the congress. Attendance to these sessions was not just a part of my task but was also a continuing learning experience for me as a pulmonary and critical care fellow-in-training. I was able to meet the leaders of APSR as well as top-notch lecturers from around the world who are the créme de la créme in their respective pulmonary subspecialties. Meeting these great men and women widened my network of mentors and colleagues. Listening to these experts enriched me not only in a scholarly manner but also taught me of life's lessons.

My last post for APSR 2018 was a message of gratitude to all the speakers and participants who contributed to the success of this year's congress. As I posted images of the closing ceremonies, I realized that my job as a correspondent was about to end but all the knowledge and experience gained will remain.

Thank you to the APSR and PCCP for offering and granting me this opportunity. I would like to express my gratitude to the APSR 2018 research committee for accepting our paper entitled "Anti-interleukin 5 in the treatment of eosinophilic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis" for poster presentation. I would also like to thank my colleagues and mentors from UP-Philippine General Hospital for their support.

Thank you everyone!
謝謝 你們!
みなさんありがとう!
Maraming Salamat po!
