VenueRoom B‑1 (seating capacity: 210)
ChairsMasayuki Suzukawa (Japan)
Younsuck Koh (Republic of Korea)
SpeakersYounsuck Koh (Republic of Korea)
Kazuo Chin (Japan)
Chin Pyng Wu (Taiwan)
Nicholas S. Hill (US)
John Moxham (UK)
Hideki Ishihara (Japan)
Target audienceRespiratory physicians treating patients with noninvasive ventilation, intensive care specialists, clinical researchers, nurses and respiratory therapists.

Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:

  • evaluate data supporting the use of NPPV in acute and chronic illness
  • describe new indications and contraindications of NPPV
  • identify appropriate indications, assessment strategies and program requirements to apply NPPV
  • recognize the new technological advances

This workshop will provide participants with an update on the indications for NPPV and on technical aspects of the procedure. At the conclusion of this workshop, the participants will understand the new indications for, and the limits of, NPPV.

  • The Role of NPPV in Acute Exacerbations of COPD, presented by Younsuck Koh (Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Seoul, Republic of Korea)
  • New and Unconventional Applications of NPPV (e.g. Weaning, Immunocompromised Patients, Post-surgical Respiratory Distress): Potential Benefits and Risks, presented by Kazuo Chin (Department of Physical Therapeutics and Respiratory Medicine, Kyoto University Hospital, Japan)
  • Noninvasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV): Principles and Practice, presented by Chin-Pyng Wu (President of Taiwan Society of Critical Care Medicine, Taiwan)
  • Noninvasive Ventilation, presented by Nicholas S. Hill (Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Tufts-New England Medical Center, Boston, USA)
  • Non-invasive Ventilation as an Adjunct to Pulmonary Rehabilitation, presented by John Moxham (Professor of Respiratory Medicine, King's College London School of Medicine, London, UK)
  • Non-Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation in Patients with Chronic Respiratory Failure, presented by Hideki Ishihara (Department of Respiratory Medicine and Intensive Care, Osaka Prefectural Medical Center for Respiratory and Allergic Diseases, Osaka, Japan)

WS-2 Update on Radiologic Correlation of Pulmonary Disease

Time09:00‑11:20 Tuesday 21st November
VenueRoom A (seating capacity: 550)
ChairsK. Murata (Japan)
Jung Gi Im (Republic of Korea)
SpeakersYeun-Chung Chang (Taiwan)
Kyung Soo Lee (Republic of Korea)
Satoshi Noma (Japan)
David Milne (New Zealand)
Target audiencePulmonologists in practice and in training

Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, the participant will be able to:

  • recognize the appropriate choices for imaging evaluation of the most common pulmonary conditions
  • identify the imaging features and differential diagnosis of these conditions
  • interpret pathologic and radiographic data pertinent to clinical cases
  • demonstrate how clinical experts dissect and arrange data provided to arrive at an appropriate differential diagnosis

The purpose of this workshop is to provide a state-of-the-art review of thoracic imaging, provided by excellent speakers who are experts in their chosen topics.

  • Acute exacerbations of COPD: the role of NPPV
  • NPPV in non-COPD acute respiratory failure
  • New and unconventional applications of NPPV (e.g. weaning, infection diseases, immunocompromised patients, post-surgical respiratory distress): potential benefits and risks.
  • Causes of NPPV: failure and success
  • Domiciliary NPPV and long term oxygen therapy

Radiological Features of IIPs
This presentation will describe routine radiography, high resolution CT scan and other topics of radiographic tools for ILDs.

  • CT Findings of Pulmonary Infection, presented by Yeun-Chung Chang (National Taiwan University Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan)
  • Allergic Lung Diseases, presented by Kyung Soo Lee (Department of Radiology, Samsung Medical Center, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine, Republic of Korea)
  • HRCT-Pathologic Correlation in Chronic Bird Fancier's Lung, presented by Satoshi Noma (Department of Radiology, Tenri Hospital, Japan)
  • Imaging in Airways Disease, presented by David Milne (Chest Radiologist University of Auckland, New Zealand)
