APSR Pulmonary Circulation Assembly
Meet the Assembly
What do we do?
The Pulmonary Circulation Assembly has been focusing on two main aspects. One is the development of new knowledge on pulmonary hypertension, mainly including pulmonary arterial hypertension, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary hypertension associated with respiratory diseases. The other is to introduce the topics and importance of clinical issues using new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques on pulmonary circulation to all APSR members.
The main interests in the Pulmonary Circulation Assembly include acute pulmonary thromboembolism, pulmonary hypertension (PH), and pulmonary vascular diseases. Recently medical treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension and surgery or balloon angioplasty for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) could cure those patients who were believed to be fatal. Now balloon pulmonary angioplasty with improved technique by Japanese doctors is widely available even in Europe, but experience in Asian countries other than Japan is limited. We will focus on new diagnostic imaging and treatment of PH. Further we will continue to find molecular pathogenesis of PH and new targets for treatment of PH associated with respiratory disease for those having dismal prognosis.
The current Assembly Head Prof. Kimura is interested in severe pulmonary hypertension associated with respiratory diseases; the Head-Elect Prof. Tanabe focuses on pathogenesis and treatment of CTEPH; and the Deputy Head Prof. Hanaoka is interested in PH associated with COPD and high altitude pulmonary edema. We will be happy to discuss diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary embolism or PH, to clarify epidemiology among Asian countries, to distribute new modalities of treatment of PH to doctors of APSR.
Who should join:
The membership of the Pulmonary Circulation Assembly is composed of physicians, researchers, and other health-care professionals who are interested in fulfilling the Assembly's missions of development of new knowledge on pulmonary hypertension and the introduction of the topics and importance of clinical issues using new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques on diseases of pulmonary circulation to all APSR members.
The Assembly actively enrolls members of the APSR who are keen to develop knowledge, build contacts and networks, present research ideas, and build research collaborations regarding pulmonary arterial hypertension, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, and pulmonary hypertension associated with respiratory diseases. Meanwhile, the Assembly welcomes all the members of APSR who are interested in the clinical issues using new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques on diseases of pulmonary circulation. The Assembly urgently recruits APSR senior members with vast experience who wish to share their knowledge in training and educating the next generation in the fields of acute pulmonary thromboembolism, pulmonary hypertension, and pulmonary vascular diseases. Lastly, the Assembly wishes to meet APSR members who are keen to submit ideas for talks and presentations at the Pulmonary Circulation Assembly Symposium in future APSR Annual Congresses.
