Teaching Library

This Teaching Library was built in 2015 by the APSR for use by all APSR members.

It is a collaborative project; APSR members add cases to the Library for other APSR members to enhance their knowledge for the benefit of their careers and their patients.

Each case is introduced and followed by a question. Up to five possible answers are displayed, and you are invited to select the correct answer. Correct answers are recorded against your name and you can review your progressive score over time.

Teaching Library menu options

• Select a challenge You can select a challenge from a list of cases.
• My score This shows the cases you have attempted, the date, and your success. The total number of successes is shown for each level of difficulty.

You can also add your own cases to the Library through the following menu options, for other APSR members to challenge themselves:

• Add a case From the menu page, click the "Submit a case" button to download a template form (MS Word file). Complete the form and email it to education@theapsr.org. You can also email images and a short video that you consider are helpful for describing the case and the challenge you are setting.

After you have submitted your case, it will go through a rigorous review before being added to the Library.

An assembly leader who specialises in field will review its clinical content, and the Education Committee will review the educational merit of your submission. If your case is not accepted, they will explain the reasons. Otherwise, your case will be added to the Library, making it available for members to select and challenge, as described above.

(if you are not sure whether your case is suitable for the Library, feel free to contact one of your assembly leaders and ask for their advice. To make contact, simply open your assembly webpage which will display the names of your assembly leaders, then click the blue button "See member list & Contact a member". Scroll down the list of members to find the person you wish to contact, then click their balloon icon and type your message.)

• Display All your cases are listed.
• Change You can change any of your cases at any time. However, if it has been added to the Library, your case will automatically be suspended until it has been reviewed and approved again.
• Delete You can delete any of your cases at any time.

Be aware that once you delete a case, the information and any related images cannot be recovered.

If you wish to temporarily remove a case from the Library to modify it, simply make a change to the text, which will automatically suspend the case.

• End This takes you to the APSR homepage.

Software

You do not need to download and/or instal any special software to use the APSR Teaching Library.

It runs on mobile devices (smartphones, iPhones, tablets, etc.) laptops and desktop PCs. It runs on all the major browsers and operating systems, such as Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, etc.

The Library is built as a "browser app" rather than a "mobile app". The difference between browser and mobile apps is often subjective but generally understood to mean:

  • Mobile apps are useful when they need access to other information on the device, such as your calendar, phone book of contacts, etc. The Library does not need access to any of your personal data, and therefore presents no risk of compromising your privacy.

  • The Library is a browser app and therefore requires internet access, as do most mobile apps. However, unlike mobile apps, a browser app uses the data and programs held on an internet server, which do not interfere with your personal data on your mobile device or PC.

And because the Library is on an internet server, you don't have to download anything, you don't have to load databases to your mobile device, and you don't have to worry about updates. You will be able to see your data on practically any device, anywhere, and anytime.
