APSR 2016 Fukuchi Award winner for the paper Genetic variants of pulmonary SP-D predict disease outcome of COPD in a Chinese population

Dr Ou has been working in the Division of Chest Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, National Cheng Kung University Hospital, Taiwan as an attending physician since 2009 after getting her Board of Chest Medicine. In 2013, she graduated from the Institute of Clinical Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan with a master's degree. She cooperated with Professor Wang Jiu-Yao, who is the head of Allergy & Clinical Immunology Research Center, National Cheng Kung University and devoted her research career to immunology in respiratory medicine, particularly in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pulmonary tuberculosis. She also participated as co-Principal Investigator in several clinical trials on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which were initiated from Professor Hsiue Tzuen-Ren, a vice president in National Cheng Kung University Hospital.

Dr Ou and her colleagues were awarded the 2016 Fukuchi Award for the best original research paper published in Respirology during 2015. The paper was selected by an international expert panel comprising Prof Antonio Anzueto (University of Texas, San Antonio, USA), Prof John Mastronarde (Ohio State University, Columbus, USA), Prof Chunxue Bai (APSR Research Committee, Shanghai, China), Prof Albert Li (Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong) and Dr Christina Spengler (ETH Zurich, Switzerland), Philip Bardin (Monash University, Melbourne, Australia) and chaired by Prof Michael Niederman (Stony Brook University, New York, USA). The panel ranked the papers published in 2015 for novelty, importance, methodology, clarity and overall quality. A consensus about the best original research paper was then obtained through a rigorous judging system.
