The 64th Japanese Respiratory Society Annual Meeting was an enlightening event that delved into many topics shaping the landscape of pulmonary medicine today. Held from April 5th to 7th, the conference brought together researchers and clinicians to share their latest findings and advancements in respiratory medicine.

This conference provided a full opportunity for inspirational and constructive discussions. This conference also acted as a platform to enhance a constructive dialogue on my research. The paper I presented at the meeting has been allocated to the evolving paradigm in the thoracic cancer section. The title of my presentation was Use of Novel Ultrasound Sign in the Management of Malignant Pleural Effusion – A Prospective, Observational Study. I described the possible role of lung ultrasound and pleural manometry in better management of malignant pleural effusion. I also chaired the same paper presentation session and had constructive discussions on the papers of Dr Nobuaki Kobayashi and Dr Hiroshi Takumida. Dr Kobayashi shared the clinical consequences of recent innovations in initial systemic treatments for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), emphasizing the significance of driver mutations and PD-L1 expression. Dr Hiroshi Takumida presented a paper on the novel aspects of NEUROD1-mediated transcriptomic and epigenetic regulations in small-cell lung carcinoma. During this session, we had a chance to discuss various possible treatments and diagnostic modalities for lung cancer.

During the conference, I had the opportunity to discuss lung malignancy epidemiology and the various strategies for managing malignant pleural effusion with Dr Nobuaki Kobayashi and Professor Kenzo Soejima. I also had the chance to discuss innovative strategies and ultrasound's role in pulmonary medicine practice with fellow researchers and clinicians.

Attending the conference provided me with a beneficial learning experience. It was an excellent opportunity to participate fully in discussions with the latest researchers and to share findings and views during the paper presentation and post-presentation session. As a result, I have known many academics and professionals from countries with similar research interests in lung malignancy and pleural disorders.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR) and Japanese Respiratory Society for providing me with the invaluable opportunity to attend the conference through a travel grant. Their generous funding covered the expenses associated with my participation, enabling me to enrich my knowledge and gain valuable experience in the field of pulmonary medicine. This conference has undoubtedly broadened my perspectives and deepened my understanding of the latest advancements. I am genuinely thankful for the support and encouragement provided by the Japanese Respiratory Society. I want to thank APSR for its continued commitment to fostering knowledge and collaboration in pulmonology.
