Dear member

APSR members are invited to self-nominate to represent the APSR either as a Congress Speaker or Young Investigator at the prestigious 56th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Respiratory Society 8-10 April 2016, in the magnificent historical city of Kyoto, Japan.

The JRS meeting is of special significance to the APSR as it will be held in Kyoto, home to the world-renowned Kyoto University and home to our president, Prof. Michiaki Mishima. As such, it is expected that there will be many outstanding applicants for these awards and the APSR is grateful for the exponential increase in the number and diligence of APSR members who are increasingly active contributors to the APSR vision of better lung health for people in the Asia-Pacific region.

1. APSR Speaker Award opportunities

APSR Speaker Award opportunities are available for the following topics at the International Symposium:

  • Update on COPD Pathogenesis and Therapy
  • Update on Asthma Pathogenesis and Therapy

Awardees will be selected based on merit and APSR participation; i.e. a demonstrated contribution to the APSR such as being an office-bearer, volunteer/supporter, FAPSR, individual member, with appropriate clinical expertise, experience, speaking skills, etc.

Each speaker will be provided with a JRS travel grant of US$2,000 (northeast Asia) or US$2,500 (southeast Asia), an honorarium of 50,000 Yen, and accommodation for a maximum of four nights.

To apply, please submit a brief (one-page) curriculum vitae to the APSR Secretariat detailing your professional qualifications, expertise and past speaking experience in your topic, plus details of your contributions to the APSR, as outlined above.

2. APSR Young Investigator Award opportunities

The APSR invites APSR Young Investigator members (under 40 years old on the first day of the JRS2016 Kyoto meeting) to be selected to present their abstract at the JRS2016 paper/poster sessions.

Awardees will be selected from the top-ranked abstracts submitted to the APSR2015 Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. If you would like to participate in this activity, first please submit a brief (one-page) curriculum vitae and a copy of your submitted APSR2015 Kuala Lumpur abstract, to the APSR Secretariat with a cover letter detailing why your abstract should be considered for this prestigious award.

Successful awardees will be required to submit this same abstract for the JRS2016 in Kyoto.

Successful awardees will be provided with a JRS travel grant of US$1,000 (northeast Asia) or US1,500 (southeast Asia), in addition to hotel accommodation for four nights.
