The Asian Pacific Society of Respirology was established in 1986. The objectives of the Society are the advancement and promotion of knowledge of the respiratory system in health and disease. It strives to encourage research, improve clinical practice through teaching, increase awareness of health problems in the area and promote the exchange of knowledge among respirologists in the Asia Pacific region. The specific aims of the Society are: i) promoting and coordinating activities in the field of respiratory medicine; ii) fostering research activities in the field of respiratory medicine; iii) organizing and coordinating regular congresses and occasional meetings; iv) producing regular publications, including a Newsletter, the APSR Respiratory Updates and Respirology, a journal of international repute. The Hong Kong Lung Foundation was incorporated on 12 March 1996 with the objectives of (i) promoting public education in respiratory health and disease; (ii) supporting research activities in respiratory diseases and health; and (iii)  supporting professional education and training in respiratory medicine and related disciplines.
