Scholarship from The Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ)
This scholarship from TSANZ covers a return economy airfare, registration and accommodation at the 2008 TSANZ Annual Scientific Meeting in Melbourne, Australia (30 March to 2 April 2008).
This will be awarded to a scientist or clinician on the basis of scientific merit and presentation of their poster. The recipient will be less than 40 years of age and the first author of the poster. The poster will be presented in the appropriate session. Applicants must indicate they wish to be considered for the TSANZ scholarship on the Abstracts Submission form.
Ten of the submitted abstracts will be placed on a shortlist by the APSR. The following criteria will be applied.
Originality of idea and impact of the study | 20% |
Significance of hypothesis | 20% |
Appropriateness of methods | 25% |
Scientific / data interpretation | 25% |
Presentation of results | 10% |
A panel of three judges (two to be chosen by the APSR, one to be a TSANZ nominee) will determine the winner applying the following criteria.
Scientific merit of the study, including

All submitters will be informed of progress prior to the APSR Congress.

APSR Travel Awards to attend the ATS International Conference in Toronto
May 16-21, 2008
The APSR is pleased to announce two Travel Awards to attend the ATS International Conference in Toronto May 16-21, 2008.
The Awards include a return economy airfare up to a maximum of US$3,000 (payable on submission of air ticket receipt) from the applicant's usual place of residence to Toronto, and US$1,500 towards the cost of accommodation and registration. These Awards are part of a reciprocal agreement with the ATS which is offering two similar awards to its members to attend the APSR Congress in Australia.
Applicants must be members of the APSR. They must also be 3-7 years post PhD (or equivalent) or 3-7 years post certification as a professional respiratory specialist. Applications should be sent to the APSR Secretariat (kyu00671@nifty.com) and must include the applicant's ATS abstract, a letter outlining the benefits to the applicant for attending the ATS Conference, a brief curriculum vitae including a list of publications, and the year the postgraduate qualifications were obtained.
